Looking Who's Talking A LOT!

Over the last few months, Ian's been talking A LOT more. He surprises us with his appropriate use of words and phrases that he apparently hears us say. I thought I'd jot down some of my favorites before the newness wears off :)

"I need to sit just a minute." That might be from me...
"I have an idea!"
"What you doing Mommy?" When I'm not in his direct line of vision
"That's amazing." Said with awe in his voice
"I'm so happy to see you!" Often said when he hasn't seen Fred or I during the day
"But I love _________." Used to reference something he's wanting to have
"I need to watch Mickey Mouse or something..."
"Ooooo, I'm cute." Probably hears this too much!
"My _____________ is sick." This is used when something hurts or he scrapes a body part, such as "My knee is sick. Let's put a Lightning McQueen on it." In reference to his Cars Bandaids
"Let's play a football fame." Meaning he wants to go outside and toss the football

Sesame Street Live

We took Ian to see Sesame Street Live and watched him dance, bounce, and wave at Elmo and friends for an hour. He couldn't understand why he wasn't allowed on stage for hugs and pictures like at Busch Gardens but really enjoyed watching the show.

Loving the Beach

We got to spend the week in Nags Head, NC enjoying one of my favorite things on earth! Ian loved running up and down the shore, playing in the water, and building sand castles. He even got to pet a blowfish that a man caught off shore. Unfortunately Fred developed viral meningitis during the trip and spent several days in bed before returning home for an extensive hospital stay. But, we did get a few playtime pictures before the sickness set in!

Race Cars with Daddy

Ian got to "drive" his first race car with Fred at a race car track in Nags Head. His smile was huge during each turn. It was a priceless moment for us to see Ian experience in "real life" what he plays with every day.

NC Aquarium

We took Ian to the North Carolina Aquarium while on vacation in Nags Head. He liked seeing the "big fishy" (better known as a shark) and thought the baby alligator was funny. He especially enjoyed the sea turtle display.

The Wright Brothers Memorial

Historic Hill

Landing sites for the first flights

We spent the week in Nags Head, NC and used a cloudy day to explore the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kitty Hawk. We saw the first 4 landing spots for the first successful flights and the historical hill from where they flew.

Nationals Stadium

Fred and I saw the Braves play the Nationals for his 34th birthday at Nationals Park in DC. We got to watch Chipper and McCann play most of the game. During the 8th inning, we got a call from Elana saying that Ian had a fever and was vomitting. So we packed up and headed to get our sick boy. It was still a great day and always exciting being at a ballpark eating hotdogs and watching the Braves with Fred.

First Day of Preschool

Ian's worried look...
Ian started preschool today! He seemed a bit anxious all morning as we talked about going to school and meeting new teachers and new friends. I tried to get a pic by himself before leaving, but I think the anxiety was just too much. However, once we got to preschool he became the curious, take on a challenge little boy that we love so much. He walked in with Fred and I, put his bag on his hook, washed his hands and went straight for the toys. He told us bye with some hesitancy but within moments was enjoying himself with all of the fun activities. He had a great report from his teachers for the day and seemed very excited about preschool. Our prayers were answered for Ian to enjoy preschool and adjust quickly to this new phase in his sweet little life.

The Night Before Preschool

Preschool is finally here! We enrolled Ian at New Town United Methodist Church Preschool in January and after 8 months, it's finally time for his first day. He'll attend two days a week from 9:00-12:00pm. In our effort to prepare him for this big adjustment, we read The Night Before Preschool, though I'm not sure if really registered that the little boy in the book was soon going to be him!

Ian's Artwork

Ian was never a fan of fingerpainting. He just didn't like having those dirty hands! But given a paintbrush, he really enjoys painting. It's a great activity for those rainy days!

A Day in the Life of Cars

Ian wakes up in the morning asking specific questions about his cars. He calls them by name before I'm even able to get him out of bed. As he walks down the hallway and nears the living room, his eyes fix on his oversized car table where each car has waited patiently throughout the night to received attention from their owner. Okay, a bit dramatic, but this kid adores his collection and Fred and I have come to love them too. Therefore it's only fitting that I include pics of how he spends so many hours each day.
